Hello everyone!

At the request of one of the users I have decided to put together a guide to follow when you are titling a topic.
I believe this is important because many of us have limited time on TS.com so we just want to find the topics which interest us. Giving your topic a good title will help you get more people to actually post in the topic. It will also help people to find topics they have already posted in.

[*]Your title should be a 2 to 7 word summary of the topic. Use keywords from the topic so people know what it is about before they click the topic.
[*]Make it stand out from the crowd. How is your topic different from the other 30 topics on the front page. If it's not different why are you posting a new topic?

Guide for specific sections: ((Not all sections have been included. If you would like to see a section included please reply to this)
[*]Introduce Yourself.
This must be one of the hardest to title. Give your post a title which people will remember, but which still serve to be an introduction "Greetings from the south of the world " is a good example
[*]Literature Discussion
Your title should have the name of the book or author the title is about, unless it's a general discussion in which the title should be what tat general discussion is eg."What's the worst book you've ever read?"
[*] Vent Station
This must be the worst section for ambiguous titles. Titles like "Stop it, stop it, STOP IT! " or "Oh Crap!" don't tell the other users what the topic is about, and I know that I personally look at such topics last. SImply asking for help is not appreciated either. A good title will include who and/or what you are venting about.

This is why I stay away from the important topics thread. It's all just, "Help me!"

Just as you predicted, I tend to skip over the titles that aren't very specific. ;)

INDIANA JONES AND IRINA SPALKO FOREVER. Why?
Because a hero/villain couple who were never even boyfriend/girlfriend is better than Stupid Bella+Edward. (More reasons on the website!)

Thanks for the guide. I'm not usually good with titling topics. Anyway, I need help with a topic that I'm going to post in the writer's Circle. I don't know which title is good "Compatibility with your charcters" or "Relationships between your characters." It's about how your characters get along well...or not.

how about "Interaction Between Your Characters"? Even something like your other choices is still a proper subject title. It doesn't need to be novel long, just a short description of what you are going to discuss. It's a lot better than "OMG Humanity -90000!!!!!". :x

An unpleasant and sickening odour crept up the staircase.
Upon the door being burst open, a legion of rats scampered in all directions.
The greater portion of the body of the poor girl had been devoured by the rats.

That's a good title. The example is like A character likes B character or something. Also, like B character hates C character for my thread.

You know how on some sites you can hover over a title and it'll give you the first hundred (or whatever) characters in the post? Is it possible to do that on this site? It might help people have a further understanding, beyond the title, of what the topic is about.

That's a pretty good idea...
