To the people who talk during class...

Postby LenniBird on Fri Oct 23, 2009 8:31 pm

Shut up. Really, just shut up. I don't care if this makes me a nerd, I actually want to LEARN things. And I'm pretty sure other people do to!

During World History today, we were supposed to be taking notes on a movie about ancient Greece. There was a substitute teacher as well who really didn't seem to care what we were doing. The speakers and the volume were already failing enough as it was, but the group of douchebags up front decide they're just going to start talking to each other and adding they're own commentary. When a painting of a naked person comes up, or something like that? They all collectively let out one large, "EWWWWWWW!!!!!" Seriously? How old are we again? GROW UP. And when a picture of a Greek philosopher comes up? "HE'S SOOO UGLY!!!" We sooo don't need to hear it.

And what happens when they miss some important information (that everyone else has missed too, seeing as the only thing that is audible in the room is them)? They yell, "Hey, what was that dude's name again?!?!?!?" And they keep asking and asking in their loud, obnoxious voice, until someone has to scream, "We don't frickin' know!!" By then though, we've already missed a bunch of info, and they have to ask again, and the cycle just keeps going on and on and on. Already, by this time, many students have tried to ask them to keep it quiet, which they all ignore.

So by now, I'm ready to just go up to the front of the room to slap them around, but my friend (C) decides to say to them, "Hey, why don't you all learn to shut up?" One of them, mistaking her for another guy (B) in the classroom, turns around in his seat to say, "You know what, B? Why don't you shove it-" Then he stops when he realizes he's talking to C, because she just happens to be one of the nicest people in the grade. Another girl tells, him, "That was really uncalled for." I think that was when they all realized how Seth Morgan-ish they were being, and shut up for the remainder of the movie.

But it seriously bugs me how people who talk during class or don't listen to the teacher not only disrupt other people trying to actually learn, but when the teacher gets annoyed enough with them, they punish the whole class for just a few people's actions. (This happened a lot in my 6th and 7th grade drama classes.) I'm a little more OK with it when people are just chatting amongst themselves during times when we're doing classwork, but not when we're in a lesson.

Maybe I'm overreacting a little, but I'm so tired of this now, as it's also happening when morning announcements come on too.

tl;dr Some Seth Morgan in my class decided to be disruptive throughout an entire movie, and I'm sick of people talking during class and not paying attention.

Ugh I have this same problem in my literature class. You weren't overreacting at all. I could say you handled that pretty well.

This is EXACTLY the kind of thing that happens when we're watching "Twelfth Night". Almost everyone laughs at what the actors say, what they do, or how they say things/do things. Then, after they're all done giggling and being immature, they ask, "who's that guy?" even though they SHOULD KNOW it's Sir Toby (anyone who's studied Twelfth Night should know who I'm talking about). At one scene, the twin brother and the sea captain (Sebastian and Antonio) are talking to one another. Everyone should know it's the two men and no one else. Suddenly, the girl next to me says, "I'm confused. Who's the brother?"

...

Have you been paying attention at all? Who looks like Viola/Cesario? WHO? WHO?! YOU'RE IN THE ACADEMIC STREAM, FOR tango'S SAKE!

What annoys me more is when there is a sub, who is trying be be nice but everyone else is just yelling over them. Because they can. I find it so disrespectful.

 I just noticed that two of Shakespeare's plays have an Antonio and Sebastian (the other being The Tempest) -- did he like those names or something? o.o Being slightly on topic, when my class studied that in grade 9 everyone loved it and payed attention -- both while reading and when watching the movie.

Totally on topic: that's not overreacting. I've had that happen before too, whether it's the teacher talking, when the announcements are on, or another student is sharing an idea with everyone else. The last one tends to be the worst, since if people are talking 1) the person has to repeat themselves and 2) the teacher gets a bit pissed off, especially when they noticed the one talking had brought up something good in class. And being someone who learns mainly by listening in class, it's highly annoying.

As for them talking while working, meh. The only bad part is during French and Math (especially the first) class, where people tend to speak in English :? The teacher tends to get pissed, which isn't that great...

I find it absolutely annoying that the people who keep making the most noise are the ones who are failing in the class they are being noisy, and they don't seem to realize that and just keep on going.

My class has a group of those people, and it can be pretty stressful to study there since they back just. Won't. Stop. Talking. I swear to God, I know how you feel. It actually pushes me to scream at them, when I'm usually quiet in the class and don't want to cause a scene.

And what pisses me off more? The teachers again and AGAIN scold their behavior, but they keep doing it. And they complained on getting a C on Conduct last term. :|

Oh tango these guys. I have an Aboriginal studies class (a bit lame I know) and more than half my class is full of these retards. Every single day I have to listen to them talk about "how stupid this Stephenie Meyer is..." or "did you hear about that 2012 thing..." and some of those idiots actually believe in that crap and talk about conspiracies and carp. Then it only gets worse when the teacher tells them to quiet down, they make little comments to each other about how she should shut up or how she's the one being loud, its prancing ludicrous.

Now I haven't said anything to them, but I have spoken to the teacher, some students and the vice-principal and principal. They can't really do anything but they are going to try and see if they can help me get through some of the work. (besides my mild laziness, I can't prancing concentrate because of them). So in conclusion, these noisy waltzer have sub-human intelligence and don't know when to shut up, they are also causing me a lot of stress that is actually killing me (have gone to the emergency room for heart tests and have had mental evaluation), they make me so mad that I can't prancing do anything and I wish every moment I'm in class that I could punch them all in the face one by one. So yeah, I feel you're pain.

Ugh this sounds like my English class. -_- I'm surprised that we made it through The Crucible... I couldn't even enjoy it because of the stupid people in there! Couldn't even enjoy the movie! T_T;;;; I remember that a couple weeks ago, we were doing this packet thingy on Ethos, Pathos, and Logos and one of our assignments was to make sure that the author of an article got his facts correct for one of his claims. I raise my hand to answer and I got interrupted like twice.. -_-** Not that bad of an amount I guess, but I'm someone who hates being interrupted and having to repeat myself. I almost wanted to say, "Forget it. Obviously no one else cares and wants a passing grade. Why should I speak when no one cares or when no one will let me speak?"

^I love The Crucible! Both the play and the movie...

Yeah, I agree, OP. Kids are just stupid, and I can only hope I ever have as much courage as C to tell some kids to shut the tango up.

Oh my God. I know how you feel x_x! Every single one of my French classes are like this. By the end of the class theres always at least 3 people that get sent to the office. The worst part is that the teacher always penalizes the whole class because of those dumbasses. Two page reflections, lunch and afterschool detentions get really prancing annoying when you weren't even doing anything.

Same here. These idiots in my class ended up interrupting (read: joking with the teacher, screaming/shouting in the middle of class, gathering in the back of the class and talking loudly) Biology so much that we didn't even have enough time to cover the full syllabus... And in the end everyone had to self-study two chapters.

It's bad when the whole class gets punished, but even worse when the teacher doesn't tell the class to shut up and ends up NOT TEACHING TWO CHAPTERS /nearly failed Biology (not blaming the teacher or anything, but >_>)

I seriously hate people like that.
There's this one kid in my Advanced Geometry class who has the biggest freakin' ego ever. He's also kind of a jerk to me. He makes everything a big deal.

I really really hate people like this, I came from a school where 80% of them were massive blabbermouths, and 50% passed only because they copied off of others and cheated on tests.

Yes, agreed about how people failing are usually the ones making the most noise. During science last year, the disruptive people were the ones not writing down notes in class, and then when an open notebook quiz or test came along, they'd start BAW'ing about how they didn't have any of the notes.

People talking in class is the reason I want to take online classes - that, and the fact that they're all retards who can't understand anything. Seriously, this happened in English class:

Teacher: So he threw his father's testicles into the ocean, and from the splash, Aphrodite was born.
Girl: How was Aphrodite born?

*facestairs* She would know how if she payed attention.

Anyway, I'm taking spanish.

The class had to do some translating, the teacher tried to tell us what the words meant, but the class kept talking, and the teacher told the class to be quiet 5 times and they still didn't shut up. I wanted to just hit their heads with something hard so they would get it.

I wanted to join the drama club. They had the meetings announced over the intercom day of at the end of last period. Usually at that time every single person decides they want to chat up their buddies and I can't hear a damn thing. So I never got to join the drama club.

Ugh, this happens basically in... ALL my classes? :| I swear it's stressfull as hell.

People talk so loud I can even hear their whole life dramas. At this point, I think I know the lives of everyone in the class

The good part is when we have to do a test by the end of the class and those Seth Morgan don't know carp about what the teacher's asking :) . It's fun to laugh at their inability to write out a logical answer.

Urgh. You know what's really annoying? In my classes most of the populars (and most of my class are the populars) blab on and on and on so people like me who actually want to do the frickin' work can't because the teacher isn't telling them to shut the freak up so we end up getting the stuff as homework. And also, the teacher taking it out on everyone like when one of the boys said something stupid so the teacher decided that we couldn't watch the film, so we done this pointless quiz thing instead.

Also, sometimes some people want to actually LEARN which usually means HEARING STUFF. Seriously, if I'm stuck with those idiots in my class for the next four years I'm not gonna make it into my dream job (marine biologist). Hell, I'll probably be a hobo in the streets like the morons.

...Yeah, I'm in a foul mood incase you couldn't tell.

Then these people who talk all through the lesson and don't respect the teacher, blame their poor marks on the teacher for not motivating them enough!

Ugh.

It is YOUR job to motivate yourself.
It is YOUR job to get the most of your education.
It is YOUR job to act like a responsible young adult.
It is YOUR job to discipline yourself.
It is YOUR job to respect others.
YOU come FIRST in your education the teacher comes SECOND.
AND IF YOU MISBEHAVE THROUGH OUT THE ENTIRE LESSON, IT IS YOUR FAULT IF YOU DO NOT GET THE MARKS YOU WANTED.
/raeg.

Damn, I sound like my dad. >.<
